STATIC is a musical drama that follows Matthew Riley, a musician using songwriting to make sense of the death of his father, James Riley. As he unravels the past, he confronts the pain of James’ abandonment and the lasting wounds it left behind. Spanning 40 years, the story weaves through their fractured relationship, from childhood to James’ final days under the shadow of dementia. Through music and memory, Matthew searches for closure, exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. STATIC discusses sexuality in the mid-20th century, mental health, and the toll it can take on families/acceptance of one's past.
Co-created by Conor Kelly O'Brien & Daniel Amedee, STATIC (previously known as Light & Sound) has undergone many stages of development since 2018. STATIC is Produced and Directed by Michael Pillot.
STATIC has been performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 59e59 Theaters in NYC, Orlando Fringe Festival, and the Scranton Fringe Festival.
